Seize your destiny

What a powerful move of God we have had during this year’s Daniel Fast. It was our 15th consecutive annual church-wide fast, and for us, it was certainly the most significant.

The theme this year was « Seize your Destiny. » And our Biblical text was Philippiens 3:12-14 It is not that I have already taken hold of it or have already attained perfect maturity, but I continue my pursuit in hope that I may possess it, since I have indeed been taken possession of by Christ [Jesus]. 13 Brothers, I for my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus.

I have spoken already about the past twelve months being among the most difficult of our lives. This past spring our church went through a major crisis which impacted our young adult population in a very negative way. At one point I thought we were headed towards a major split in the church.

Though we were all feeling hurt and troubled, our leadership team stood fast as well as all of our department leaders. We got through the storm without losing anyone. But as the summer months came and went it seemed that the pain and mistrust was just below the surface.

During this Daniel Fast God moved powerfully to heal the hearts, and release genuine repentance and forgiveness. God also spoke to us so clearly regarding the nature of the storm and how to better get through it the next time it comes around.

During our last prayer meeting for the fast, a spirit of celebration broke out in the church. Within a few moments the young adults came streaming to the front of the hall to dance in joy before the Lord. They had cried out to God; and God met them. There they were celebrating God, and affirming their place in the church. God did the miracle, and it was dancing before our very eyes.

Not only did the devil fail to bring down the church, our leadership team is stronger today, and the young adults are more committed to advancing God’s kingdom then ever before. Our church is coming out of this storm stronger, and bigger. The devil lost and Jesus is the Victor!

I believe this breakthrough would have come eventually in the life of our local church without the Fast. But the fact that we were able to motivate everyone to do the Fast together produced a positive spiritual atmosphere allowing God to move upon the hearts and accelerate the work of His grace. We are forever grateful for His goodness.

I realize that the annual Daniel Fast is a revelation that God gave to us here at our local church; and consequently it is a tool that God always uses to catapult us further in His will. However, I can’t help but believe that if you would be as serious as we are in seeking His face and His heart He would do comparable miracles for you. So why not schedule next year’s Daniel Fast right now and plan to do it with us?
